At the encouragement of the Council N'siah, Jessi Polsky, Lindsay Smith (class of 2006) was at the helm of the creation of Nava. She organized the first chapter program ever on September 19, 2004. Five girls -- Kimmie Garber, Lauren Lynch, Rachel Brecher, Wynne Strugatch and Lindsay Smith -- attended along with two members of council board. The chapter was temporarily called Tova before it was formally named. It did not have a number, a mascot, colors or status within the council for months. Membership grew to about five or six the weekend before Sweetheart/Heartthrob 2004, and Jennifer Ahdoot, Rachel Brecher, Lauren Lynch, Kimberly Garber and Lindsay Smith decided to name the chapter Nava, meaning Beautiful. The colors were to be red and yellow, the mascot was to be Betty Boop, the movie was to be Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the song was to be Naughty Girl by Beyonce. The song was later changed to Dancing Queen and then finally changed to What I Like About You by Lillix. The movie was changed to Mean Girls during Fall Term 2006. Nava grew to twelve members and received its charter and number on February 19, 2004, six months after it began. However, the chapter was not informed of this and did not receive the charter in the mail until May of 2004.
